PRETORIA – The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has officially postponed the high-stakes fraud case involving a R360 million police tender to June 26, 2026.

Suspended National Police Commissioner Gen Fannie Masemola, alongside Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala and 12 other high-ranking police officers, appeared in court on Wednesday morning to face charges linked to the multi-million rand contract.

The investigation centers on a R360 million tender awarded to Medicare24, a company owned by Matlala, who has been described as an alleged criminal underworld figure.

Masemola, identified as accused number 17 in the matter, faces serious charges of violating the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). Despite the gravity of the allegations, the suspended commissioner addressed the media following his appearance, firmly maintaining his innocence regarding the tender award.

Legal Proceedings Continue

With the matter now set to return to court in late June, the public and anti-corruption watchdogs are closely monitoring the proceedings. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding procurement integrity within the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the accountability of its top leadership.
