JOHANNESBURG – What began as a Tinder date turned into a nightmare for a local man who was allegedly spiked and robbed by two women he met on the popular dating app.

The victims reportedly arrived at the man's home to "chill" and offered him a massage. However, they allegedly spiked his drink, causing him to lose consciousness. While he was incapacitated, the suspects looted his home, making off with two iPhone 17s, a MacBook, designer clothing, luxury bags, and various household belongings.

The Monday Morning Sting

The victim woke up the following Monday morning to find his home emptied. It was later discovered that the high-end iPhones, valued at tens of thousands of rands, were sold for a mere R8,000.

Refusing to back down, the victim orchestrated a brilliant recovery plan. Once he secured access to a phone, he created a fake profile and began messaging the suspects, posing as a new "client" interested in a meetup.

Ambushed at the Meetup

Thinking they had found their next target to spike and rob, the women arrived at the agreed-upon location. Instead of a new victim, they were met by the original victim and waiting police officers. The duo was immediately apprehended and taken into custody.

Public Warning: Dating app users are urged to meet in public spaces and avoid inviting strangers to their homes on first meetings to prevent becoming victims of similar "spike and rob" syndicates.
