QWAQWA – The community of Mphatlalatsane has been left devastated following the gruesome discovery of Mokete Mosweunyana’s body. Mokete, who had been missing since 25 April, was found burnt beyond recognition near the Metsimatsho Dam in Thaba Bosiu Village.
The tragedy has sparked deep anger and fear among residents, as Mokete was reportedly linked to an ongoing criminal case as a state witness. The brutality of the killing has led many to believe that he and others connected to the case—including Thato Ntoni, Tokoloho Mosweunyana, and Nokofa Ntai—have been specifically targeted.
While police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murder, tensions in the area remain high. Many community members have accused law enforcement of failing to act promptly when Mokete was first reported missing, claiming that repeated warnings about his safety were ignored.
The incident has reignited a broader conversation about violent crime and witness intimidation in the Free State. Families of the victims describe their pain as "unbearable" and are calling for the justice system to handle the matter with complete transparency and urgency.
