RANCHI – Residents of the Vidyanagar locality are in a state of shock after a woman was arrested for the alleged murder of her father-in-law, Dr. K.P. Gupta. The deceased was a well-known and reputed homeopathic practitioner who had served the community for many years.
The Pandra OP police launched an investigation on Saturday after receiving reports of a suspicious death at the residence. During questioning, investigators noted conflicting statements from family members, which eventually led to the daughter-in-law’s confession. She reportedly admitted to frequent arguments over household matters, with a final dispute on the day of the incident triggering the fatal act of violence.
As news of the doctor’s death spread, neighbors gathered outside the family home, expressing disbelief that such a crime could occur within a respected household. Dr. Gupta was a familiar face in Vidyanagar, known for his medical practice and his dependence on family care in his final days.
Authorities have sent the body to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a post-mortem to confirm the exact cause of death. A formal murder case has been registered, and the woman remains in custody as police investigate whether any other factors contributed to the crime.
