SOWETO – A family is left searching for answers after a 41-year-old mother, Nasiphi Dutywa, and her nine-month-old baby girl, Ovayo, were found dead in her boyfriend’s bed. Postmortem results have since pointed to suspected poison ingestion as the cause of their untimely deaths.
By the time relatives arrived at the property, the house was silent. They were met with the grim sight of the lifeless bodies in the bedroom. Despite the shocking nature of the scene, the family has voiced frustration over what they describe as minimal communication from the South African Police Service (SAPS).
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police have released no further details regarding potential suspects or progress in the investigation. This lack of transparency has left Nasiphi’s relatives desperate for justice, questioning the exact circumstances of the "conflict" reported by the boyfriend shortly before the discovery.
Neighbors in Soweto have expressed deep concern over the tragedy, noting a rise in domestic violence cases across the township. Community leaders are now calling for thorough forensic analysis and swift action to determine how toxic substances were accessed and whether there was malicious intent involved.
