TSAKANE – The community of Tsakane is in mourning after the gruesome details of the death of 16-year-old Neo Mahlangu came to light. Neo, who traveled from Daveyton to visit family, was allegedly beaten to death in a home that should have been his sanctuary.

The Allegations: Early police reports suggest that a violent confrontation broke out at the family home. Neo's aunt, Andile Aalivirah Mthembu, is accused of beating the teenager to death with a stick. Most chillingly, it is alleged that her 14-year-old son assisted in burying Neo’s body to cover up the crime.

The case was uncovered after Neo's disappearance sparked a desperate community-led search. Following intense inquiries at the residence, police discovered the teen's shallow grave on the property. Forensic teams are currently working to determine the precise cause of death and the sequence of events that led to this tragedy.

Authorities have confirmed that while the aunt faces murder charges, her minor son's involvement will be handled through South Africa’s child justice system. Neighbors and friends remember Neo as a polite, future-oriented young man, and his grieving family is now demanding immediate accountability for his life being cut short.

Child protection groups have condemned the incident, expressing shock that such extreme violence could occur within a household. As investigations continue, SAPS has urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors and to allow the legal process to take its course.
