MOKOPANE – A Limpopo community is in a race against time as the search for 2-year-old Omphile Sethole enters its second week. The toddler was allegedly kidnapped from her grandmother’s home in Ga-Mabuela Village, near Mokopane, in the early hours of Saturday, 2 May 2026.
The harrowing incident unfolded around 2:00 AM when Omphile's 52-year-old grandmother woke up to use the bathroom, taking the child with her before both returned to bed. Tragically, when the grandmother woke again at 6:00 AM, the little girl had vanished.

Forced Entry and Suspicious Activity
Evidence at the scene suggests a forced entry, as a window in the bedroom was found wide open. Family members also recalled seeing a suspicious vehicle near the home the day before the disappearance, raising fears that the kidnapping may have been premeditated.
Despite an immediate and exhaustive search by the family and local residents, no sign of the child was found. The Tinmyne Police Station has since opened formal cases of housebreaking and kidnapping.
Description of Omphile
At the time of her disappearance, Omphile was wearing a pink jersey and black tights. The family, friends, and community members are continuing to share awareness posts in hopes of generating a lead that will bring her home safely.
