– Residents of Hammarsdale in KwaZulu-Natal have been left in shock following a fatal domestic violence incident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 05 May 2026.

It is alleged that a man identified as Wandile Mchunu attacked and killed the mother of his children, Nokukhanya Ndaba. Following the murder, Mchunu reportedly committed suicide.

"Two lives have been lost in a moment of extreme violence, leaving a family shattered and a community searching for answers."

The tragedy has left two minor children orphaned. According to community members, the couple's children include a five-year-old and a seven-month-old infant. Neighbors who witnessed the aftermath described the event as a harrowing experience that has deeply traumatized the local area.

The loss of both parents means the children will now face the challenge of growing up without maternal or paternal guidance. Local community leaders have expressed grief over the situation, citing the ongoing struggle against gender-based violence in the province.

KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the matter. A case of murder and an inquest docket have been opened to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
