ETWATWA – The community of Etwatwa in Gauteng is reeling from the tragic death of 17-year-old Precious “Cucu” Ndlovu, a Grade 10 learner at Phandimfundo Secondary School who reportedly took her own life following alleged persistent bullying by a teacher.

Cucu, who was the mother of a seven-month-old daughter, died by suicide between May 6 and May 7, 2026. Her family claims the young mother was subjected to a campaign of humiliation and verbal abuse by a teacher who targeted her specifically because of her status as a teenage parent.

Allegations of Targeted Harassment

The family alleges that the teacher’s behavior was both physical and psychological. Reports suggest the educator would pull Cucu’s hair and blame her for various classroom issues. The teacher also reportedly made disparaging remarks, accusing her of sleeping in class due to her responsibilities as a mother and comparing the classroom environment to a "maternity ward."

Precious's mother, Buyiswa Ndlovu, revealed that her daughter had confided in her about the bullying shortly before her death. In her final days, the family noticed a change in her behavior as she spent hours listening to sad music and crying.

A Family and an Infant Left Behind

Precious leaves behind a grieving family and a seven-month-old daughter who will now grow up without her mother. The community is now calling for a full investigation into the conduct of the staff at Phandimfundo Secondary School.

The Gauteng Department of Education is expected to address the matter as calls for "Justice for Cucu" grow louder across social media platforms, highlighting the severe impact of school-based bullying.
