BAGHDAD – The Baghdad Informal Settlement near Ebony Park was struck by grim news on Monday morning following the discovery of a lifeless body at a local dumping site near a stream.
The deceased, a man widely recognized in the area for his kindness and dedication to helping elderly residents with yard maintenance, was found by stunned community members. While no visible injuries were immediately apparent on the body, eyewitnesses at the scene have raised suspicions that the victim may have been strangled before being dumped.

Robbery Suspected After Cash Disappears
The discovery has sent shockwaves through the settlement, particularly as rumors circulate regarding a possible motive. Friends and neighbors reported that the man was last seen on Sunday in possession of approximately R2,500 in cash—hard-earned money from his various cleaning jobs.
The absence of the funds has led many to believe the victim was targeted for his earnings. Paramedics arrived shortly after the discovery and officially declared the man dead at the scene.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) from Ivory Park have since cordoned off the area and opened a formal investigation into the circumstances of the death. Detectives are urging anyone with information regarding the victim's final hours on Sunday to come forward.
