POLOKWANE – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, popularly known as the Hawks, alongside South African Police Service (SAPS) officials, descended upon the Polokwane Municipality offices this Thursday.
The surprise visit was part of a high-level search and seizure operation tied to an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption and serious financial misconduct within the municipal administration.

Serious Corruption Investigation Confirmed
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit in Limpopo confirmed that the operation was conducted lawfully under strict oversight. According to Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Avele Fumba, the probe focuses on alleged contraventions of the Municipal Finance Management Act and the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.
Officials were seen moving through the premises, potentially seizing documents and digital evidence required to move the investigation toward a conclusion.
"Nothing to Conceal" – Municipality
In response to the raid, municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala stated that the local government remains fully committed to the principles of transparency and accountability. Selala maintained that the municipality is cooperating with the authorities, adding that there is "nothing to conceal" as the legal processes unfold.
The operation has sparked intense conversation among Polokwane residents, many of whom are demanding swift action against any officials found to have compromised the city's financial integrity.
