KWAGGAFONTEIN – Taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and his co-accused will remain behind bars following their appearance in the Kwaggafontein court on Wednesday. The court has postponed their formal bail application to Friday, 15 May 2026.

The legal proceedings took a more serious turn as the pair now faces an additional charge of money laundering, alongside the initial charges of extortion.

Rising Legal Troubles

The duo was initially apprehended in connection with "construction mafia" style tactics linked to the R571 road project. Allegations suggest that they interfered with project management, demanding the use of their own materials and labor, as well as a financial share of the development.

With the addition of money laundering to the charge sheet, the state appears to be building a comprehensive case against the local figurehead. The community remains on high alert as the court determines whether the suspects are eligible for release pending trial.
