Betrayal in Diepkloof: Soweto Man Left Penniless After Girlfriend's Alleged 'Withdrawal Spree'
A two-month romance ends in financial ruin and a digital vanishing act, followed by a shocking legal counter-claim.
Mpho Mosena, a resident of Diepkloof, Soweto, is facing a nightmare that has become all too common in the digital dating era. What began as a promising two-month relationship with Virginia Chabalala has culminated in total financial depletion and a bitter war of words that has moved from the bank to the courtroom.
According to Mosena, the financial hemorrhage began early yesterday morning with an initial R2,000 withdrawal. The trail continued to Boulders Shopping Centre in Midrand, where another R3,000 was allegedly taken. The spree reportedly concluded at a Shoprite liquor outlet in Pan Africa Mall with a R700 "cashback" transaction. By the time Mosena realized the extent of the activity, Chabalala had performed a complete digital "ghosting"—blocking him on both WhatsApp and Facebook.
The situation took a darker turn when Chabalala, originally from Limpopo, was reached for comment. After an initial delay, she surfaced with a staggering counter-accusation. She has publicly claimed intentions to open a rape case against Mosena, alleging that he is currently "hiding" to avoid the repercussions of his actions. Mosena, meanwhile, remains devastated, maintaining that the theft was the primary motive for the disappearance.
