Seeking to "spice up" her domestic life, Mashapa allegedly donned her boyfriend's sacred khaki attire—a uniform held in high religious esteem by millions—and began performing the mpogo dance. Expecting laughter and a "Girlfriend of the Year" accolade, she was instead met with a transformation of her partner’s temperament that she describes as immediate and terrifying.
The boyfriend’s reaction reflects the gravity with which ZCC members view their regalia. In a culture where the khaki uniform is considered a sanctified symbol of faith and discipline, its use for casual or "romantic" entertainment is viewed by many as an act of desecration. Mashapa now finds herself homeless, appealing to the Mabopane community for a place to stay after being summarily evicted from the residence.
